Department Responsibilities

The Animal Control officers address a variety of animal-related issues within the city limits, including:

  • Animal-at-Large: Responding to reports of stray or roaming animals that are not under the control of their owner.
  • Rabies and Vaccination Compliance: Ensuring that pet owners comply with city ordinances regarding rabies vaccinations and licensing.
  • Animal Nuisances: Investigating complaints about barking dogs, unsanitary conditions, or other animal-related nuisances that disturb the peace.
  • Welfare Checks: Investigating reports of animal cruelty, neglect, or abuse.

The department works to educate the public on responsible pet ownership and provides information on local ordinances to help prevent violations.

Osceola Animal Shelter

The Osceola Animal Shelter is a crucial part of the department’s mission. The shelter provides a safe and humane environment for stray and unwanted animals while they await adoption or are reunited with their owners. The shelter works closely with volunteers to help place animals in loving, responsible homes and to reduce the number of animals that must be humanely euthanized.

  • Adoption Services: The shelter provides opportunities for the public to adopt a variety of animals. Adoption fees and a simple application process help ensure that pets go to suitable homes.
  • Lost and Found: The shelter serves as a central location for lost pets, helping to reunite them with their owners. Residents can contact the shelter to report a lost or found pet.
  • Donations and Support: The shelter is supported by city funds as well as public donations of food, supplies, and monetary contributions, which are vital to providing quality care for the animals.
