The City of Osceola is proud to support the “Work Here, Live Here” program, an innovative housing initiative designed to encourage workers in Mississippi County to become homeowners in the community where they are employed.
What is the Program?
“Work Here, Live Here” is a cooperative partnership between local industries, financial institutions, and the Grow Mississippi County Community Foundation. Its purpose is to help attract and retain a skilled workforce by making homeownership more accessible. The program provides a substantial financial incentive for employees of participating companies who choose to purchase or build a home in Mississippi County, including Osceola.
How it Works
The program offers a forgivable loan to eligible individuals:
- For New Construction: Up to 10% of the home’s value (up to a maximum of $50,000) can be provided for a new home build.
- For Existing Homes: Up to 5% of the home’s value (up to a maximum of $25,000) is available for the purchase of an existing home.
This loan is forgiven over a period of time, as long as the homeowner continues to work for a participating employer in the county. This not only makes homeownership more achievable but also helps to build a more stable and engaged community.
Building Our Community
The “Work Here, Live Here” program is more than just a housing incentive; it’s a catalyst for community growth. By encouraging our workforce to live and invest in Osceola, we are strengthening our local economy, increasing our tax base, and fostering a sense of pride and belonging. This initiative helps to ensure that as our industries grow, our communities grow alongside them, creating a brighter future for everyone.
